Times have changed for the automobile. In 1986 when I first opened Bob’s Autodynamics auto service and repair center inLas Vegas things were different. The vehicles of today are made to last longer then the vehicles of the past. Back in 1980 computers were being installed in cars to help with the pollution problem in our country. Those were some rough years for the car makers.
The auto manufactures were under pressure from the EPA to make cars run cleaner. The only way the car makers could accomplish this was to enlist the help of the computer to run the fuel and ignition systems of the vehicle. At that point in time carburetors were used to deliver fuel to the engine. The engineers had trouble making a mechanical part (the carburetor) work well with an electronic part (the computer). They did the best they could but still had problems achieving pollution goals.
In 1990 the manufactures decided to start using electronic fuel injectors. That change with many other advancements helped them achieve their goals. Not only did the pollution coming form cars go down gas mileage went up and cars ran better. Gone were the days waiting for your car to warm up before you could depend on your car to run good.
Around the year 2000 manufactures really improved engine and transmission designs. It is not unusual for a vehicle to last 300,000 miles if it has been well maintained. Those improvements with others again helped pollution and gas mileage.
At Bob’s Autodynamics we have noticed that the newer cars with all their advancements and improvements will fall apart or break down faster if not maintained then the older cars did. It’s the old saying , they don’t make them like they use to. But if you do maintain your new car it will last you a good long while.
Americans LOVE their automobiles. We all have our favorite car we own or wished we could afford to own. There is nothing better than driving down the highway on a nice day to visit our family or friends. I know I’m looking forward to my next trip down that highway in my well maintained car.

The holidays are here and that has me thinking about all the people in Las Vegas that are struggling right now. Some people are out of a job and are still looking for work. Some people only have a part-time job, and others have just seen a decrease in income.
This is the time to get out and help your family and friends. I have noticed that the busses are almost full with people these days. I used to see the busses almost empty and still running their routes. I’m sue some people have lost their cars because they could not make the payment or their car may need a major repair they can not afford. It could be they just don’t have the gas money right now.
How about we offer our family or our neighbor a ride to the store, the doctor, or whatever errand that will help them. We could see if they just need a little gas money to get by this month. I’m sure if you pay attention you will find many people you know that could use a little help this year.
I have lived in Las Vegas since 1964 and know for a fact that the people living here are very giving. We may be a melting pot of people from all over the country but we are the best of the best when it comes to helping out. So come on Las Vegas lets get out there and help someone this year. You know the old saying It’s better to give than to receive.

As the Holidays draw closer we all start thinking of our families and friends. Who’s coming over for Thanksgiving dinner? Are we going to Grandmas for Christmas? What Should I get for my favorite people this year? When the holidays get here we are all so busy prepairing we tend to forget the importain things of everyday life. Is the family car ready for that trip to Grandmas house? Why not take an hour and visit your favorate auto repair shop befor the holidays get here. Get the car serviced and checked for the up and coming road trip. That is another way to take some stress out of your holidays.
When it time to do some Christmas shopping why not think about everyones cars. Shopping for car acessories is a lot more fun than having it serviced. How about a navagation system or a new sound system? If the seats or carpet is in bad condition how about some seat covers or floormats. If you have a lazy person in your group a book of free car washes would be awesome. If you realy love that person and the car needs some paint how about a sparkling new paint job. The posibilities are almost endless when it comes to car acessoires. If you have some youg driver straped for cash a gift certificate for a few oil change services at your local garage would be apreceated and good for the car. Presents related to peoples cars can be both aforadable and practical.
When the holidays are here there will be a lot of parties. At many parties some people may have a bit to much to drink. As we all know drinking and driving is a big NO NO. There are a few places that will provide a ride home during the holidays. I know AAA offers “Tipsy Tow” that will take you and your car home for free, but it would be apropiate to make a small donation.
